Curse of the Science Fiction Writer
In the category of discovering science fiction authors: via a message on the SF Canada mailing list, I surfed to Ahmed A. Khan's mini-story Curse of the Science Fiction Writer and discovered how to deal with despots.

Many people seem to write about aliens. Most aliens in stories seem to human chacteristics. Star Trek has humanoids with bony crust stuck on their heads speaking gutteral english eating live worms. Or with light blue skin and two suction cups sticking on their heads. The sci fi channel stargates us to death with sg1 episodes where theyre always fighting with bad humans on another world. It started out as an ancient modern egypt movie thing and with a lack of imagation tv writers copied the hell out of it. Probably inspired by Von Dieniken. (Wonder if he ever takes that pen out of his mouth?) Probably the best SF film I've seen was SOLDIER. Good humans vs bad humans. Who knows what charastics aliens have unless you met some and if you did you might not know it. People interviewed by John Keel have met some! I like the one in Keel's interview where the bad alien stole the interviewee's shoes and socks and the good alien returned them with the socks washed ,dried and ironed. I also like the brand new or restored historical cars they ride around in. Or go on Nick Reiter's site AVALON , if its still there, look at the smoky picture and read the paper Nick wrote.
